Hiroshima will always remain in the collective memory of mankind as that place which reminds us of the importance of the struggle for a world free of nucelar weapons.

As the organisers of a big demonstration for women’s rights on the occasion of 100 Years of Internatinal Women’s Day in Vienna (Austria) we are sending our greetings to the activists in Hiroshima, who take this day as an occasion every year to warn against the dangers of a nuclear war and the urgency of disarmament.

The struggle for a peaceful world without nucelar weapons and war is not only part of our tradition, but remains a major issue of any women’s movement today and in the future; last but not least, the fact that so many or any resources at all are provided for the production of weapons is an expression of the relations of power between the sexes. These are resources which are lacking for the peaceful development of our societies, so that the allocation of resources according to the principle of profit maximising in the interest of preserving patriarchy and capitalims has become one root underlying the poverty of women globally. We demand that in both society and politics more women are entrusted with positions of decison-making so that such misguided development against our interests can be prevented.

We demand an internatinal culture of dialogue between peoples and in particular between women, fpr a juster global economic order, for solidarity and peace.
